The Elephant in the Room

The Supper Model kicked off the new year with a birthday celebration of Indian proportions. What began as a Maharaja themed birthday party for 40, became a colorful celebration of friends new and old, the christening of a new apartment, and a toast to a new job and new year for the woman of honor!

Guests arrived amidst flurries on a blustery Saturday evening, only to be greeted with Pomegranate Martini’s, and the warm glow of jewel-toned votives under a canopy of pink and orange balloons.

A sense of a Far Eastern sunset was in the air as the aroma of spiced lamb pastries, curried chicken salad, garam masala bacon dip, and caramelized pork belly nests filled the apartment…

While ladies sipped champagne, men rejoiced at the selection of IPA (India Pale Ale) on tap (or rather on ice), and everyone hit the buffet table to try exotic fruits and cheese, roast winter vegetable crudites, and avocado-tahini dip…

All aglow with exotic flavors

To set the scene, we slipped sparkling Indian bracelets around each votive, while tall Caspari candles and wildly colorful plates brought out the brilliant hues of overflowing platters, and highlighted Roberta Freeman’s decadent (and oh so fitting) “Amanda” tablecloth.

Creamy filled Cucumber flowers and Sesame Lemongrass Shrimp Skewers disappeared as fast as they arrived…

while personalized Elephant M&M’s were everyone’s favorite eatable decoration.

When it came time for dessert, a vibrant red-velvet cupcake tower was easy and exciting finger food for guests wanting something sweet.

And the surprise of lemon sugar cookies were a well-loved homage to the evening’s inspiration:

It was a night to remember and so I tried to capture it all…
while insuring that everyone followed The Supper Model’s one rule:

AND SO THEY DID…

Happy 30th Amanda!

With love,

This was truly one of the most special nights of my life…all thanks to the Supper Model. Darcy went above and beyond to create my "elephant-themed" soiree. As you can tell, the night was truly inspired! Thank you, Darcy! xo
