Yes it’s Pantone’s color of the year. Yes it looks amazing on sun kissed skin, on blondes, on brunettes, and cut with white. And YES it’s the perfect and oh-so-chic color to POP any look. Radiant Orchid may just be the most exciting IN color we’ve seen to date. Discuss?
The return of this purple shade to mainstream summer fashion has definitely given my wardrobe a much needed facelift, or facial at least, and now that the long hot summer days are in full force, I’ve been inspired to incorporate the neon lavender tone into my bohemian day-drobe just in time for all the outdoor summer music, food, and culture-driven festivities. THIS is my kind of festival wear: it’s easy, it’s breezy, and it’s beautiful but it checks the bohemian, bright, and bold boxes, which as we know from the stylings of all those Coachella celebs are the hallmarks of successful summer festival wear this season.
Kendall and Kylie Jenner are all about the excess, and you know what so am I: bring on the feathers and pom-pom-adorned jewelry Vai Brasil! Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens love the bohemian textures, white lace, and beach blown hair. Well who doesn’t right? Models like Chanel Iman, Poppy Delevingne, and Alessandra Ambrosia love their short shorts (“shorties” as I like to call them). I mean how could fashion ever forget Kate Moss at Glastonbury British Music Festival in 2005 donning her signature rocker chic hair, short short shorties and wellies! Heroin chic meets heroine chic: brilliant, just brilliant.
So! Survey says…. time to get a little wet and wild and kick your accessories up a notch. Use that Radiant Orchid palette to play with textures and patterns, with stones and surfaces. Find a great belt like this stunning orchid agate one from Swanky Belts, and match the electric colored stone with YSL’s killer new lipstick in Fuchsia. Play on the purples with cool crisps tones like bright ocean blue or metallic grey. Less adventurous? Keep it classic by adorning a white shirt, white shorts, or a flowing dress with lavender-laced jewelry from Poupette St Barth, and let that handmade bright purple purse do all the talking for you.
HERE IS THE KEY WITH THIS TREND: anyone and everyone can capture the free spirited vibe. Fact. If you depend on some unexpected and out of the box accessories and stay in one color family, you can immediately add texture, romance, sparkle, glamour, sexiness, gosh you name it, to your outfit. By relying on some wild and whimsical pieces to reenergize and update your summer day-party look you can avoid two key pitfalls of the festival look: creating something that looks more costume like than chic, and breaking the bank to achieve a look that is oh-so-now, and potentially oh-so-not next season.
Because true style is smart, you need to play it smart when developing your own style. Think about that as you approach your outfits this week and especially you weekend wear. Remember summer is the time to experiment and try new things.
