The Classic Trench Coat. An endlessly useful, timeless piece and undoubted wardrobe essential. A spring trench and a fall trench are two transitional pieces that no woman or man should be without. And that doesn’t mean you have to break the bank to make sure you have one on hand. It always wonderful to have a classic preppy Burberry trench in your ‘drobe’, but this season it’s more fun to opt for a softer, looser fitting trench that is lighter and less structured. So in order to be prepared to look good (and stay dry) on those down right dark and drizzly days this fall you don’t need to break the bank on an investment trench: at the close of NYFW a few weeks back NYC had a day marked by constant in and out rain showers, dotted by glorious sun storms. It was unexpected muggy and my favorite new trench seemed like the only thing I could wear to get from show to presentation and then to a dinner in 3 different sections of the city. So it was time to rewind to the classic Times New Roman Trench Coat and rework it to make it runway (and even subway) ready! Because wild weather makes for wild hair no matter what, so the best thing to do on days where the sky just can’t make up its mind is to just embrace it! Go with a salt sprayed messy braid to tame the frizz or fluff the flatness, and sinch your loose layered trench with a skinny sexy leather belt. Grab a pair of great earrings and a carry all purse, and you’re a DIY Diva in disguise, creating an entirely couture dress out of what was only a moment ago just a coat. Pop on the patent leather heels and your are proofed for work, drinks, dinner, and any sidewalk streaking that may come in between…
