Making a fashion statement (a good one that is) is by far the most terrifying goal to set for yourself when getting dressed. Sure, on some days it might be fun to let your clothing do all the talking, but having true style means that you can easily recognize yourself before walking out the door. So on those morning, or before those evenings, when you are feeling great and looking to shine as brightly on the outside as you feel on the inside, try relying on a truly awesome statement piece to set a simple outfit a glow.
Remember you don’t need much to help you radiate when you’re already wanting to stand in the sun, and that’s why using an accessory, like this Mignonne Gavigan neckpiece above, is the best way to make a stunning splash this spring. This ikat beaded, hand dyed sunset neck scarf is one of the most gorgeous things I have ever come across. I honestly think it is best appreciated with absolutely nothing, but alas posing nude with just this statement neckpiece wasn’t a practical option, however hot the day. I talked a lot about statement making success last week (read the post here) and I just have to reiterate that the statement necklace is the easiest way to completely transform a multitude of outfits and transcend your everyday wardrobe this season.
Let me say it again, Statement Making fashion succeeds only when you have a singular stunning piece that is allowed to shine. So this spring, keep the rest simple. Invest in your favorite statement neckpiece (you can browse the amazing Mignonne Gavigan collections here) and approach pairing it with my spring/summer statement-making “S” Rule.
The “S” Rule, or the “Simple” Equation:
Statement (piece) + Solids, Shades, Studs, & Sandals = STUNNING Style
Avoid patterns and stick to solid color dresses, skirts, tops, and pants. Style your outfit with sunglasses and sandals. These casual nods give your look a slick unspoken confidence and really let the necklace sing. And lastly if you think you need an earring, just STUD IT. You don’t want a lot of things competing for attention near your neckline as it will diffuse the brilliance of your look.
Head-turning statement-making style is always surprising in it’s simplicity and focus. So this spring make a statement, own your style, and don’t shy away from letting a bit of yourself shine through that big old banyan tree.
