It’s official, culottes are the new staple for spring. Whether you’re an instant fan or instinctually afraid of this bold style, I’m here to tell you that you can and want to rock this fashion trend.
The culotte options available this spring are made in a myriad of luxe fabrics that give these cropped pants wonderful structure and provide an elegant glamorous touch to any outfit. Culottes are exceedingly comfortable and with a great pair of heels or strappy sandals these pants can trick the eye into thinking your wearing a flowing midi skirt, when of course you’re not, which is why the culotte is so great for spring-summer city dressing. They can be worn to the office, without the hassle that a skirt or dress provides in transit to and from work. And with a quick switch from a blouse to a crop top, and kitten heels to metallic platforms you can go from office chic to evening glam in no time.
Remmeber that this is still a feminine look even though it truly is a menswear statement, which why this look translates so boldly, so it does require a subtle serene confidence to pull it off.
Some tips for sporting culottes correctly
Look for a high waisted cut. This will accentuate the smallest part of your waist, which is important when wearing a more wide leg, flowing pant. Use a then belt to highlight the waist as well to keep the look feeling tailored and sexy.
Speaking of tailored, don’t shy away from tailoring your culottes so they fit pretty much perfectly. This is a look that drown even the tallest woman, so it is key that they fit well around the waist and hips, and also hit you at the right length on your leg line. This is very different for each woman, but most of us know where on our leg we like a cropped boyfriend jean or capri pant to hit so that our ankles look thin and legs look long, so opt for hemming until you get it just right.
Find spring colored culottes. Pink, white, lavender, khaki, and even a floral print are all perfect culotte color choices as they pair perfectly with a white black or denim top. You can shop some of my favorite colored culottes bellow
When styling culottes, let the culottes stand out. Culottes can be surprisingly flirty in their faux-skirt feel, so try to keep the accessories to a minimum. Chose a crop top in a neutral color and a strappy open toe heeled sandal for evening, and a pointy toe pump, tucked in blouse, or light weight turtle neck for day. If you culottes are a matte fabric, feel free to play with a metallic bag, shoe, or belt, but if you have patterned or sateen culottes, opt for some nude, black, or white pairings and accessories to minimize shine. If you still want to tie in a texture or pattern, try experimenting with metallic nails (like I did above) I love the current metallic collection by Essie.
Whatever you do, don’t be caught sans culottes this season...
