This seasons NYFW was a true whirlwind. The second half of the September shows were marked by beautiful weather and the wonderful buzz of fall in NYC, but when it came to the runway, the bold and blatant declaration : orange is the new black emerged as a leading trend. This orange crush could be seen in neon accents at Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren, where as a more rust orange monochrome look was sent down the catwalks at Altuzzara and Jenny Packham. Whether it’s sporty chic or bohemian glam, orange has made its mark as the must have color for not just the coming season but the current one as well!
For my first day of fashion week, I chose to pair these beautiful H&M orange wide leg cropped pants with an off the shoulder navy blouse. The navy and white pattern of the blouse is indeed paisley, but because the print is small it feels more fall versus the bold and big patterns of summer blues and whites. Because the pants have a more menswear feel (drop crotch, pleated, & weighty) I wanted to highlight my waist and shoulders to balance out the look. By adding a pop of neon orange at the waist and textured rust orange in my envelope clutch, the colorful statement pant fits into the look less as a statement pop of color, and more of a textured story. Afraid to try this pant cut and length? Make sure to highlight the waistband which should hit at the smallest part of your waist, and opt for shoes that show a lot of foot. Open toe or toe cleavage is helpful as it will elongate your leg making sure the line of the pleated pant extends beyond it’s hem, or at least appears to. It’s all about those subtle affordable editorial tricks that can take a look from cute to couture… and crown you a street style conquerer!
