For Office Holiday Chic Choose Classic Black and White

When it comes to office holiday chic nothing works better than classic black and white. It always looks polished and sophisticated, the contrast of bright and dark never fails to create intrigue and evoke a silent sense power. On a gorgeous fall day, like yesterday in NYC, you have to play with your layering in order to deal with the swings in temperature, so I ditched my black wrap coat mid morning and by late afternoon had tied up my tunic shirt dress in need of something more breathable and confident. I love the long tunics and shirt dresses from Forever 21 this season AND I love them even more now that Forever 21 is having a pre Black Friday 50% off sale, with free shipping when you spend $30 Pairing the slit shirt dress (like the one you see pictured above) with wide flowing trousers, cropped skinny pants, or dark leggings and knee high flat soft boots, gives the bright light tunic is a winter update that always looks great layered under a duster coat or cropped sweater, because of it’s long lines.
But if you don’t want to add a high slit shirt dress to your outfit arsenal knowing you have a great button down shirt dress (and maybe a few) just sitting in you closet from summer or summers past, simply choose one to update. By cutting a high slit up both side seams, stopping at the waist line or hip line depending on where your pants lay most often (i.e. high rise / mid rise), you can instantly revamp a piece that would likely collect dust until Memorial Day.
Not handy with scissors and a showing machine? neither am I, so you can snag my favorite slit shirt dress of the season here, or take the tunic dress you own to your dry cleaner or tailor and they can have it done in no time, and at very little cost. I love this update on the classic black and white: the slit gives the dress-come-shirt movement and adds  a modern touch. It also gives you the option of tying it in the front or back (no both at the same time) like all the cook kids are doing, and like I have styled above. And by adding the slit, your old shirt dress instantly becomes an essential cover up for resort wear! I love a multitasking wardrobe staple when I find one, and everything you see above is classic, chic, “layerable”, changeable, and, just in time for the holidays, deliciously affordable.
